What is a routing ID and how do I get it?
What is a routing ID?
The routing ID is a mandatory identifier for electronic invoicing to public clients in Germany. It uniquely identifies the invoice recipient within the federal administration and enables efficient and correct forwarding of electronic invoices via central invoice receipt platforms to the responsible authorities and their systems. This ID must be specified in the “Buyer reference” field (BT-10) in the standard XRechnung. The correct specification of the routing ID is crucial for the smooth processing and payment of e-invoices.
How is the routing ID structured?
An overview of the structure of the routing ID and the meaning of some key figures can be found here.
Where can I find my routing ID?
The allocation of routing IDs is regulated at federal and state level:
The Federal Central Finance Office (ZFB) is responsible for federal authorities and contracting authorities affiliated at federal level. Further information on applying for the routing ID can be requested from the ZFB via the BMI contact form.
The issuing offices for state authorities can be found in the current KoSIT state synopsis (document on the current implementation status of the states).
